Products chosen for children, not for cleaners

Every surface in a centre under the age of three is a surface a child will put in their mouth. So the routine cleaning products are low-tox and low-fragrance, chosen to be safe on the surface once dry, and a hospital-grade disinfectant is held back for the places that genuinely need it: nappy-change areas, toilets, and any surface involved in an illness event. Products are used at label dilution and left for their full contact time — a disinfectant wiped off after four seconds has done nothing except cost you money. Chemicals are stored locked and out of reach, safety data sheets are held on site, and if your centre has an approved product list, we use yours rather than arguing for ours.

The toy rotation, which is the part everyone under-does

Toys are the primary transmission surface in any centre, and the honest reason they do not get sanitised is that doing the whole collection at once is a job nobody has time for. So we do not try. We run a rotation: a defined portion of the hard toys is washed and sanitised every night, so the entire collection cycles through on a schedule you can point to, and no tub sits untouched for a term. Soft toys, dress-ups and fabric items are laundered on an agreed cycle. Mats, cushions and the reading corner are vacuumed nightly, spot- cleaned, and hot-water extracted periodically. If an illness runs through a room, the rotation is suspended and we do a full sanitising pass that night.

Nappy-change areas as their own zone

The change area is cleaned last, with its own colour-coded equipment, and nothing that touches it goes anywhere else in the centre. Change mats, the bench, the sink, the taps, the step and the surrounding wall and floor are cleaned, then disinfected with hospital-grade product at full contact time. Nappy bins are emptied, washed inside and out, and deodorised — the odour that greets parents at the door lives inside the bin, not on the floor around it, and hosing the floor will never fix it. Child-height toilets, basins, taps and the surrounding walls are done to the same standard, because at that height the walls are part of the toilet.

Sleep rooms, kitchens and the yard

Cot rails, mattress covers and sleep room floors are wiped and sanitised, and linen is handled to whatever procedure your centre already uses rather than one we invented. Kitchens and bottle-prep areas are cleaned to a food-safe standard — benches, sinks, fridge seals, microwave interiors, floors and bins — because a centre kitchen is a commercial kitchen with a smaller audience and a more vulnerable one. Outdoors, play equipment and handrails are wiped, soft-fall and sandpit surrounds are swept and tidied, and the paths children arrive along are cleared.

Clearances, and the records your director can actually use
